Chris Ruys founded Chris Ruys Communications, Inc. in January 1984, after 10 years of public relations agency experience. Today, the firm specializes in service businesses, women-owned and male-owned enterprises, and nonprofits.
For her longevity and business success, Chris was invited to be one of 25 women business owners in the Women’s Business Development Center’s 25th anniversary campaign in 2011. She received the "Woman Business Owner of the Year" award from the National Association of Women Business Owners and was featured on the cover of Today's Chicago Woman magazine. Her firm was named one of the top 100 small businesses in the Chicago area.
Chris served on the board and was vice president for five years of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Chicago Area chapter. She was a charter board member of the Today's Chicago Woman Foundation. She carried her entrepreneurial skills into the nonprofit sector, where she established the Chicago chapter of the National Association for Professional Saleswomen and also SUPPORT/Chicago, a nonprofit organization formed by women to support the Chicago Public Schools at a critical time.
A graduate of Illinois State University, Chris has a B.A. degree in English with a minor in Spanish. She was editor-in-chief of The Vidette student newspaper. In her spare time, Chris is an artist whose works have been exhibited at the School of the Art Institute, Palette & Chisel, The Tavern Club and Merrill Chase Galleries. She has a Certificate, with a concentration in drawing and painting, from the School of the Art Institute.
Tammy Martin is an account executive and office manager at Chris Ruys Communications, Inc. She joined the firm in March 1994 and was promoted to her current position in spring 2000. Tammy prepares press releases and other written materials, and routinely assists in fulfilling requests by media for client information. She is extensively involved in the agency’s social media efforts.
Tammy also maintains the agency's extensive database of contacts, provides administrative support and is responsible for office operations, including the planning and organizing of general office work, photography coordination, and media monitoring. She is the liaison to the firm's suppliers. She is accomplished in the implementation of social media marketing applications, including blogs, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and others.
